March 7th Minutes

Minutes for March 7, 2020 Meeting

Albert Reitz called meeting to order.

Pledge of Allegiance was done.

Officers present at the meeting:  Albert Reitz Pres, Brad Trautmann Vice Pres, William Hill Vice Pres, James VanHout Treasurer, Bud Harris Claims Director & Lori Kiehn Secretary.

February meeting minutes were read by Lori Kiehn. Motion to accept, William Hill.  Vote to approve, unanimous.

Officer Reports:

Bud Harris informed the club the mineral withdrawal issue has been tabled.  Jim VanHout stated the club purchased more gold for the gold bags to be sold.  Brad Trautman informed the club of a rock hunt outing at Indian Creek near Scenic, SD on June 13 & 14, 2020.  William Hill discussed the upcoming Gold Show and the benefit of not hosting the event.

Old Business:  covered by officer reports this month.

New Business:

Sanford Lab will be planning a 5-year anniversary party on June 18, 2020 during the day.  They would like the club to do a panning demonstration for the kids.  Sign up sheet was started for this event.

Jim brought up that He, along with Steve & Donnie have a lease agreement with the GPAA on the Eagle Eye.  They are not expecting to renew the lease and the three of them would like to give the club members exclusive rights to the 80-acre claim.  The claim is on both sides of the road.  Estes Creek runs thru it.

Discussion of starting a committee to start looking for new claims for the club.

Discussion of the club participating in Custer Gold Days.

Jim mentioned he would like to build a display case to show items found in the Black Hills. 

Bud asked if the club was interested in having Load Claims.  Load Claims are when you use more than a pick or shovel.  Also, Load Claims have to follow MSHA regulations.  Bud also discussed the club acquiring an 80 acre claim down in Quartzsite, AZ.  Since Brian & Steve live down there half the year, the club would put the claim in their names. Club members would have rights & access to this claim.  Cost is $155 per 20 acres, Maintenance Waiver, Affidavit of Labor $15 each.  Motion to approve to move forward with the new claim in AZ.  Vote to approve, unanimous.  Bud will move forward with assistance on the paperwork.

Sam Griner mentioned the BH Forestry will be enforcing ATV rules on the motorized trails this year.  Reminded club members to have permits on their ATV, UTV vehicles.
